What makes a good llms.txt

Keep it short and factual. Lead with what you are and where, like “Mobile dog grooming in north Leeds”. Then link the pages an assistant needs to answer a customer: services and prices, how to book, contact and location.

Skip the marketing adjectives. Assistants look for facts they can repeat with confidence.

How to upload it

The file has to live at the root of your domain. On self-hosted WordPress, use your host's file manager. Some hosted builders don't allow files at the root; if yours doesn't, it isn't worth fighting the platform for.

Is llms.txt a ranking factor?

No. Google says you don't need AI text files to appear in its AI features. Treat it as a low-effort extra that can help AI tools describe you accurately, never a substitute for readable pages and accurate structured data.

No. robots.txt says which bots may read your site; llms.txt describes what's worth reading. Only robots.txt can let AI search bots in.
